This event is an educational introduction to Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). CPE is an experiential training for professional Chaplains. Most Chaplains must complete two years of this education in order to pursue board certification as a Chaplain.

The event will feature three presenters who can deliver in both English and Spanish. All of the presenters are board certified Chaplains. Two of the presenters are certified CPE educators. Two of the presenters are Latino and can present in Spanish. They will discuss the following;

• ·         The History of Clinical Pastoral Education
• ·         The Experience of a CPE Intern
• ·         Serving as a Clinical Site for CPE Interns

The goal of the event is to educate the stakeholders in Puerto Rico of this important adjunct provider of healthcare. Chaplains are recognized members of healthcare provider teams. An additional benefit is to introduce the stakeholders of their opportunities to assist in the training of Chaplains.

We have invited over 85 providers of hospitals, hospices, and nonprofit agencies from across Puerto Rico. This will be a free one-day event. It begins at 9 am and ends at 3 pm. In addition, these providers will have the opportunity to interact with the presenters on a one-to-one basis to address questions and issues arising from the presentations.

The advantage of the people of Puerto Rico will be the introduction to standards and training for professional Chaplains, as the Puerto Rico government studies the need for legislation to address standards for professional Chaplains. As a result, the people of Puerto Rico gain more qualified Chaplains and qualified healthcare professionals.
